This is a device that requires software to be downloaded on it to enable it to work, a link to the software is provided on purchase and a step by step guide on how to load it on the card, a little knowledge of computers is necessary to do this.

Warning- - It is illegal to use an R4 card for uses such as downloading illegal games, music, pictures, movies etc, this is backup device for property you own.

    Ordered 18th shipped 19th arrived 20th so a 2 day turnover which is quite impressive. card works fine although i am going to give some information to others just in case they experience problems. firstly you need to goto the web address on the front of the drive and download the latest firmware. you will need winrar to extract the files so get this. download the file from the website and place it in a folder of your choice. now right click the file (with winrar already installed) and choose extract here. there will be 3 folders and 1 file extracted. plug the memory card into your computer and format it. now copy and past each folder and the file 1 at a time onto the memory card. please note you may have more folders and/or more files depending on version. once you have done this then you need to create another folder called "Apps" without quote marks. this folder will be used to store your apps. once this is done put the sd card in your R4 card and put the card into your DS. when you turn it on look at the top screen it should say nintendo ds and nintendo logo underneath. if this is correct then everything should work fine. if no nintendo logo then whats happening is the card isnt contacting with the pins. a temporary fix is to selotape a piece of card to the picture face of the R4 card this should make it work then. note you really need to get the slot pins bent back for a permanent fix and i would suggest a professional do this.

    I have recently purchased no less than 5 R4 cards of which two were this type, the cards themselves are great, they do the job they were designed to do. However, the biggest obstacle to being a happy customer is this website and the ability to contact Customer Services in order to resolve problems and links to firmware.

    This could be a good site but is let down badly. Once communication has been established; via emails, problems are sorted albeit slowly compared to just phoning someone. Re firmware this is at best confusing, I eventually went to the original makers website and got it from there. I'm giving it 3 stars as I believe a product is only as good as the service that backs it up. Xpertron, Improve communications and you'll get 5 stars from me.

    Zwijnenberg: Message "fake card please return to retailer" 25/01/2011
    Today I received the SDHC card that I puchased last week. When starting the DS the message "Fake card! Please return to retailer" pops up. Since my daughter has the same R4i-SDHC card I tried swapping the mSD cards and NDS. Please advice. Regards Gabriel

      If your DS is showing "Fake card! Please return to retailer", it is due to kernel/driver problem. Once the correct kernel/driver is copied onto the microSD, the issue will be resolved immediately.

    i have a R4 V2 that i brought here a few weeks ago and i love it to bits but the fact it only allows 2gb cards is becoming a problem as i have more then 2gb to put on it lol. Will this R4 SDHC run wood software like the R4 v2 ?

    Hi, I have bought the R4 SDHC card but when I put the firmware on, and than try it in my DS Lite, I get 'Menu?' I have tried loading the firmware from the acual site as well as from your site. The memory card that I am using is a 8gb SDHC card. Any ideas ? Kamlesh
      Dear Tank,

      The error message 'Menu?' means that the driver file is not placed at the correct place. You have to place all the unzipped files under the root folder on the microSD memory card, i.e. all the files should be visible when you open the removal drive for the microSD memory card on the PC or Mac.

Format a Micro SD/SDHC Card

 

Using Windows XP/Vista/7 Format Tool

After inserting the microSD into the card reader, go to My Computer.
    b)  Right click the driver representing the microSD memory card.
    c)  Choose Format

 

d)  Click Start to format the memory card in FAT32

Using Panasonic Memory Card Format Software

Note:
If your memory cards have capacity bigger than 32GB, please download the SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Cards Format Software.
If your memory cards have capacity equal or smaller than 32GB, please download the SD/SDHC Memory Cards Format Software.

  1. Insert SD/SDHC Memory Card into reader/writer.
  2. Click on [Start], point to [All Programs] -> [Panasonic] -> [SD Formatter VX.X], and click on [SD Formatter VX.X].
    1. “X.X” means the version number of SD Memory Card Formatting Software.
    2. If “User Account Control” window is displayed on the screen, please click on [Arrow].
  3. The main window is displayed on the screen.
  4. Select the target drive by drive list and check SD/SDHC Memory Card size.
  5. Click on [Format].
  6. After clicking on it, confirmation window is displayed on the screen. Here, if [OK] is clicked, this software executes the format operation. On the contrary, if [Cancel] is clicked, this software cancels the format operation and returns to the main window.
  7. The following status window is displayed on the screen during the format operation.
    Note: [Cancel] on this window is available only if either “FULL (Erase ON)” or “FULL (Erase OFF)” is selected as format type option. If “QUICK” is selected as format type option, this button is not available.
  8. After the format operation completion, click [OK] and remove the Memory Card from your PC.
  9. Reinsert the memory card to the PC to start using the memory card.

Using Mac Memory Card Format Tool

  1. Plug your memory card reader into a USB port on your Mac. Insert the microSD / microSDHC card into the memory card reader's microSD / microSDHC slot, and the microSD / microSDHC card will mount on your Mac desktop.
  2. In an open Finder window, single-click "Applications" in the Side-Bar and scroll down to find the Utilities folder. Find Disk Utility in the Utilities folder and double-click the "Disk Utility" application to launch it.
  3. In the opened Disk Utility application, single-click to select the microSD / microSDHC card in the left-hand Drives column. Then, single-click to select the "Erase" button in the top row of radio buttons. Select the format MS-DOS (FAT) to format the microSD / microSDHC card on the "Volume Format" pop-up button.  When you have finished selecting the formatting options, click "Erase."
  4. A new dialogue box will pop up in "Disk Utility," asking if you are sure you wish to erase the microSD / microSDHC card. Caution: Erasing the microSD / microSDHC card will permanently erase any files. Make sure you have backed up any file you wish to keep. To continue with the formatting process, click "Erase."
  5. Once the microSD / microSDHC card has been erased, it will mount on your Mac desktop just as any other removable drive.

Genuine R4 SDHC Card Setup Guide

  1. Unzip the file downloaded (using Winrar) on your PC
    1. Winrar can be downloaded from www.download.com by searching for Winrar at the Search.
    2. Unzip the files mentioned under the Software Preparation above, you will have ：

       
  2. Select all the above four unzipped files and copy them to the microSD memory card
     

     

     

     

     


     

  3. Copy your own files, including music, movies, pictures and other data to the Micro SD/SDHC memory card.
     
  4. Plug in the Micro SD/SDHC to the R4 DS. Insert the R4 DS with the microSD into the slot 1 of the DS console. Turn on the DS console. 
     
  5. You will see the WARNING – HEALTH AND SAFETY message. Touch the touch screen or press button A to continue.

     
  6. Wait for the R4 SDHC Version 3 to load.
     
     
  7. Congratulation if you have come this far as you have successfully set up your R4 SDHC Version 3. There you go. Enjoy your DS with the multimedia functions.

     
  8. If the screen is stuck with the ‘Loading’ message, it is due to the wrong driver being used. Please check the Software Preparation at the top of this guide and re-do the software download & installation.
